David Knight - 3 times World Enduro Champion

Published: 20/09/2012

Born in 1978 on the Isle of Man, David Knight is the 3 time World Enduro Champion. David would spend his youth in the hills around his home perfecting his skills and ability. As a schoolboy he’d often tell his mates that he would one day become a world champion. He spent 3 years competing in the Enduro FIM Junior Cup and in 2000 he achieved 2nd place overall and moved across to the World Enduro Championship the following year.

In 2005 competing in the E3 class he claimed his first World Title and in the same year he was the outright winner in the International 6 day Enduro series. The following year saw he have a perfect season, winning every round of the WEC and World Champion for the 2nd time. He moved across to the United States to compete in the Grand National Cross Country Series. He competed in the GNCS for two seasons winning both years.

2007 saw him make a return to the World Enduro Championships. He rode for the BMW works team, but had difficulty getting to grips with the bike. He left the team during the race season and joined a privately own Kawasaki team. Whilst with the Kawasaki team he won the British Enduro Championship, this quashed any doubts people had about his current form at the time.

The following year he returned to the KTM team and won his third world title. Most of 2011 was spent recovering from injuries. Twice he spent time in hospital for operations after injuring himself in round 1 of the EWC. He returned to racing at the end of the season and competed in the last two rounds of the championship, winning both of the rounds. Also that year saw him compete and win the tough challenge that is the Weston Beach race.

This year he was back with KTM competing in the World Enduro Championship in the E3 class o0f the championship, at the time of writing this article he was lying in 5th position of the series with two races left to finish.
